Local runners place in North Platte race

Two Valentine residents laced up their running shoes for the 9th annual Light Up the Night 5k. The charity event, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation in North Platte, was hosted by kids from the North Platte Student Council and the Platte River Fitness community. The 3.1 mile race took place in Cody Park in the evening hours of Saturday, April 6. The course consisted of three laps around the park, which is home to a collection of animals.

Roseberry to attend Boys State

The American Legion Post #319 is pleased to announce that Jasper Roseberry, of Eli, was generously sponsored, and will join nearly 270 other high school juniors from across Nebraska, participating the American Legion Cornhusker Boys State program, June 2-8, 2024, at UNL.

VHS prom theme is Out of This World

prom is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024. The Junior and Senior classes will enjoy a meal at the Peppermill at 6:00 p.m. Gymnasium doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with Promenade to begin at 8:00 p.m. Promenade is open to the public. Prom King and Queen will be crowned also.

4-H First Lego League Robotics earned fourth place trophy at first championships in Nebraska

The Cherry County 4-H First Lego League Robotics team came home with a fourth place trophy in the robot performance category! This was out of 76 teams that gathered in Lincoln to compete in the First Lego league robotics championships of Nebraska. The youth had to program their robots to accomplish as many missions as possible in 2.5 minutes.

Annual tractor and equipment safety training set

The trainings are held in collaboration with Nebraska Extension and the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health. Although designed for 14- to 15-year-old students, the courses are open to all interested in learning more about the safe operation of tractors and equipment.
