Pauline Rotter shares 100th birthday celebration with great-granddaughter

Pauline Rotter observed her 100th birthday on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center. Included in the celebration was her greatgranddaughter Fiona Pauline Rotter, who turned three years old the same day.

Pauline has been witness to some incredible changes in her lifetime. Her father, Robert Bruce, brought his bride, Alice (Sufficool) to his homestead in 1904, located in Section 35 of the Lucas Township. In 1918, Robert and Alice moved their family to Dallas, where Bruce accepted a position as a rural mail carrier and also a teacher. Alice is credited with excellent management skills as she managed to stretch her husband’s wages, manage a garden and canning, and raising chickens and a few cows to provide for their large family.

Pauline, the seventh of their thirteen children, was born after the family moved to Dallas. She told her family that she was actually born on January 6, but when her father went to the courthouse to report her birth, he told them the wrong date.
