Dan Andersson of Burke, a Democrat, has announced that he is running for the South Dakota State Senate from District 21. He cited healthcare and education as two of his main campaign focuses. “America and South Dakota are facing many problems, but until we solve basic issues like quality healthcare accessible for all and an education system that allows everyone to thrive to their abilities, it will be difficult to make progress.” he said.
Recently a local family was recognized as having three generations of American Legion members. The first generation member, Dick Schmitz, was in the Air Force during the Korean War, 1950-1953, and was recently recognized for 60 years in the American Legion. Stationed at Sanford Air Force Base in Geneva, NY, Schmitz was a cook at a training base. His family claims he is an excellent chef, so the men there must have eaten well. Schmitz is now living in the nursing home in Platte.
