Police chief-to-be offers reassurance

The regular meeting of the Gregory City Council was held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2020, at the fire hall.

Why do we keep losing police officers?

During the public forum portion of the meeting Dan Vavra was in attendance to express his concern about the city’s inability to retain police officers. He questioned whether anyone had asked the departing officers why they had resigned and whether the city could do anything to entice police officers to stay with the department longer than a few years.

Mayor Scott Anshutz said that if the departing officers had shared their reasons for leaving, he wouldn’t be able to share that with the public. He pointed out that in the past, the police chiefs were local people, but that the younger generation is not tied to the community.
