Cody-Kilgore ends season in last semifinal game of D6 State Championship Playoffs
The #1 Cody-Kilgore Cowboys ended their season last Friday against the #4 McCool Junction Mustangs in the semifinals game of the D6 State Championship Playoffs.
The Cowboys started the game well, with an 8-0 lead. Hard times hit when the Mustangs got a safety after an impressive Cowboy's goal line stand. The Mustangs were also able to gain an interception that went for a touchdown when the Cowboy's were threatening to score from the Mustang's 8 yard line.
Cody-Kilgore went into half down 14-16. Through the second half, the Cowboy's battled hard, but were unable to get the Mustang's off the field as the Mustang's converted on several 4th down situations.
The Cowboys celebrated another successful 10-1 season, winning their division three of the last four years.
The Cowboy's out scored opponents 628-135, rushing for 3,130 yards and throwing for another 944 yards. The Cowboys will lose senior leadership both on and off the field from seniors Daniel Busenitz, Waylon Schneider, Claysen Davis, and Mason Hill who leave behind a tradition that never graduates.
The Cowboy's will return sixstarters from either side of the ball, retaining 45 percent of their ground game, and several key defensive leaders. Appreciation to all who support our Cody-Kilgore Cowboy football program!
