Retirement ceremony held for Major Nate W. Blackford
June 14, 2019 a retirement ceremony was held at Fort Eustis, VA, for Major Blackford after 20 years of faithful service in the United States Army. Major Blackford has served overseas during his career in Korea and combat tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait along with various stateside assignments
Major Nate W. Blackford is the son of Ray and Jeanne Blackford of Brownlee, NE. Nate was a 1993 graduate of Thedford High School, later graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology in 1997 from Wayne State College (Wayne, Nebraska).
Nate enlisted in the United States Army in the fall of 1999, attending Basic Training in Fort Benning, Georgia and then Warrant Officer Candidate and Flight School in Fort Rucker, AL, with appointment as an Aviation Warrant Officer on 14 January 2000. Nate was blessed to receive a direct commission from CW4(Chief Warrant Officer 4) to the rank of Captain in January of 2012, remaining an Apache attack helicopter pilot throughout his career.
