Red Cross Blood Drive needs donors for May 2

Valentine, May 2 - A sufficient blood supply is important to ensure patient needs are met. Donors of all blood types are encouraged to donate blood, May 2, from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church to help save lives.

DeMontigny appointed to Cattlemen’s Beef Board

Seneca – Bree DeMontigny of Seneca, has been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB). The CBB is responsible for guiding the national Beef Checkoff Program.

Long Pine Bridge work to begin May 20

Ainsworth — Work on the Long Pine Bridge is now projected to begin May 20, 2024. Prime contractor Iowa Civil Contracting, Inc., of Victor, IA has revised their work schedule and will reduce impacts to traffic prior to completely closing the bridge. According to the contractor's latest schedule site preparations are estimated to begin May 20, 2024 with traffic reduced to one-lane during the daytime and controlled by flaggers.

In the April 17, 2024 edition of the Valentine Midland News, it was incorrectly reported that Owen Hanson was hired as a Valentine Police Officer. However, he was hired in the water department and Louis Lamb was hired in the police department. My apologies! ~Editor

VPD reported offenses, citations, and arrests, April 7-13

Incidents/Arrests On 04/07/2024 at 7:21 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Main Street. A 54 year old South Dakota woman was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

LEAD application deadline is June 15

Lincoln — Applications are now being accepted for Nebraska LEAD Class 43, which begins in the fall of 2024. Up to 30 highly motivated individuals with demonstrated leadership potential will be selected. The Nebraska LEAD Program is specifically designed for both men and women involved in production agriculture or agribusiness, who are intent on making a difference by providing quality leadership for the future of the industry of agriculture and the State of Nebraska.

NSP receives new mobile command post from federal partners

North Platte — The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is proud to unveil a new vehicle that will be utilized in several ways to keep Nebraska safe. The vehicle was donated to NSP by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Radiological Security (ORS). The new mobile command post will be stationed in North Platte.

EPA approves plan to mitigate Snake River damage in northern Nebraska

Lenexa, KS– The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved a work plan submitted to the Agency by Richard Minor of Gordon, and Cherry County, to mitigate damage to the Snake River resulting from an unauthorized drainage ditch excavated from Minor’s property to the river in 2020.
