Forrest L. Eberly, 80

Forrest Lee Eberly, 80, of Cody went home to Jesus on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

Forrest (Woody) was born July 15, 1943 in Mullen, to Forrest Fremont Eberly and Leona (Sieck) Eberly. He joined his family in a home north of Mullen. The family then moved to the Cole Ranch east of Merriman where his father, Forrest, was employed.

Forrest began his elementary school years in a country school east of Merriman. Leona, his mother, secured a teaching position with the Cody Public School. At that time the family moved to Cody, and resided there where Forrest completed his education. He graduated from Cody Public School in 1962. After graduation he attended Chadron State College.

Forrest joined the United States Army where he served as a cook. He served from 1965 to 1967. When he returned home, he worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. Later he worked for his brother, Gary, ranching.

Forrest was known as wonderful gentle man with an incredible dry sense of humor. He always had the back of those he loved and called his friends. Forrest enjoyed riding his snowmobile and coyote hunting with friends. He could often be found playing cribbage with his cronies at Cody Oil and having lunch at the Husker Hub with friends. Forrest was well known for his generosity and kind nature. He was well loved by many.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Leona Eberly; brother, Deon Eberly; and great niece, Charlsee Ray Eberly.

Forrest is survived by his brothers, Gary (Wava) Cody, Leon (Sharon) Gordon; and nieces, Jo Jean Eberly Miami, OK, Jamie Eberly Gillette, WY and Julie (Chris) Hilliker Gordon.
