West 4th Street In Valentine update

The construction project on West 4th Street (Highway 83 north) begins Phase 3 work. Phase 2 work, on Highway 83 north, between the intersection of Edna Street and Main Street is nearing completion.

Rick and Kitty VanderWey spent the weekend in Waterloo, IA to celebrate granddaughter Paisley’s birthday with her dad, Brayden Hammer, his girlfriend and her family. Paisley came home with Rick and Kitty to spend the week.

I have a new birthday buddy! Congratulations to Garrett and Katie Shadbolt of Merriman on the birth of their daughter, Prairie Ann, born July 21. She is welcomed home by siblings, George, Mavis, and Lindin. Grandparents are Jeff and Debbie Compton of Kilgore and Quentin and Angela Shadbolt of Merriman. That family is having a banner year, as Garrett is currently sitting third in the PRCA World Standings for bareback. They are richly blessed.

Wildlife viewing grant proposals

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission soon will accept grant proposals that will enhance watchable wildlife opportunities and nature-based experiences in Nebraska. The intent of these Watchable Wildlife Grants, which are funded through the Wildlife Conservation Fund, is to help people build appreciation and stewardship for natural resources through practical experience.

Welcome home Nebraska Task Force One

LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen released the following statement welcoming and thanking members of Nebraska Task Force One back to Nebraska. The 45-member group — Nebraska’s Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Team — spent the last two weeks helping aid flood recovery efforts in Texas.

West Nile Virus found in mosquitoes in Holt County

The North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) is alerting the public that mosquitoes collected near O’Neill in Holt County have tested positive for West Nile Virus. This summer, positive mosquito samples have also been found in Dakota, Red Willow, and Scottsbluff counties in Nebraska.
