Are your children protected against preventable diseases?

Lincoln, NE – Early April is an exciting time for Nebraska families as kindergarten registration gets underway, marking an important milestone for young children. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is encouraging parents to ensure their children are ready for both school and upcoming popular summer sporting events that will bring an increased number of visitors to our state and region. This includes checking that all routine vaccinations are up to date, helping protect against preventable diseases such as chickenpox, measles, mumps, and whooping cough (pertussis), which continue to pose risks to children and the broader community.

Tax dilemmas

This is not only the time of the year when taxes are on our minds, but seem to be the crying point of all the hopeful politicians as they cloud up all forms of media with their pleas for your vote in the upcoming elections. Taxes are indeed a burden to most of us living and working in this area. I realize that the government (local, state and federal) must receive taxes in order to operate, but darn, I hate to see wasteful spending which appears to account for the largest bite from your tax dollars.

DHHS releases Nebraska Cancer Registry Dashboard

Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recently released the Nebraska Cancer Registry Dashboard. This dashboard presents cancer incidence data for Nebraska, including trends, demographics, geographic distribution, and stage at diagnosis. It displays age-adjusted incidence rates, counts, and percentages based on data from the Nebraska Cancer Registry for the years 2000-2023.

Announcement for Lakeview’s public health and safety: Lakeview CR Church is now equipped with an AED(AutomatedExternalDefibrillator). It is located in the storage cabinet in the community hall. You may call the church number if you need it delivered in an emergency. There are instructions with it telling you exactly how to use it.

Across these northern Sandhills, hints of rain bring hints of green. We continue to pray for the southwest that the rains may come to stabilize the hills. Brandings are in full swing, and the toms are in full strut, a sure sign of spring.

NDOT celebrates National Work Zone Awareness Week

April 20, 2026 ~ Lincoln, NE — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is joining other agencies across the country in celebrating National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) from April 20-24. The national effort, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), focuses on encouraging safe driving through construction zones.

Troopers arrest 20 impaired drivers during special campaign

APRIL 17, 2026 LINCOLN, NE — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 20 impaired drivers from the road during a special enforcement effort last weekend. The Put the Phone Away or Pay campaign coincides with Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
