Sandhills Piecemakers Quilt Guild to host programs

Sandhills Piecemakers Quilt Guild meeting on September 22, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church at 209 N. Green Street, Valentine, NE. Program will be Dr. Steven Senseney speaking about his painted quilt process. Individuals interested in this program are welcome to attend.

Marital conflicts while driving

Navigating while driving can oftentimes be a source of conflict in marriage relationships, often sparking heated arguments which are called “carguments.” In my opinion, the greatest advancement in relieving the stress of driving conflicts is the GPS tracker, found on smart phones and on many newer model vehicles. GPS stands for Global Positioning System, and lets us know where we are and where we are going anywhere on earth.

Allo completes new fiber edge-outs

Allo recently completed laying fiber to Meadow Lake and Chaduza Acres, which they call “edge-outs,” located west and east of Valentine. This will provide 109 previously underserved addresses, pictured at right.

Why does Cherry County need a Community Convention/Event Center?

There are only 26 letters in the alphabet, and I have been thinking, how can I use these 26 letters to convince you WHY we NEED this project. Well, there are only 67 million, 108 thousand, 863 combinations of 26 letters. I am not going to bore you with that, nor am I going to “blow smoke up your pant leg” with facts and figures, I am just going to speak to you from my “heart.”

The construction project on West 4th Street (HWY 83 North) continues Phase 3 work. Phase 3 construction, building the northbound lane between the intersection of Edna Street to the Minnechaduza Creek bridge continues.

The 2025 Cherry County Friends of 4-H were honored at the Fair. Friends of 4-H are nominated each year to recognize exemplary volunteer or business service to the Cherry County 4-H program. Jason McNare has coached shooting sports for several years and received the Individual award.

Give back by donating blood on September 4

Valentine, NE (9/4/2025) — Many people want to give back to the community but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. In only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification.

Voices of the Niobrara to be held at NPS Visitors Center

VALENTINE, NE – National Park Service rangers at the Niobrara National Scenic River announce the upcoming Voices of the Niobrara speaker series, a month-long event celebrating the rich history and diverse voices of the Niobrara River Valley. This series will feature presentations from indigenous leaders, historians, and local ranchers, offering a unique opportunity for community dialogue and education. It will be held at the Niobrara National Scenic River Visitor’s Center each week, at 6:00 p.m.
