Tucked away in the back of an old cedar cupboard, beneath the soft scent of wood that has guarded keepsakes for generations, rests a quilt whose story is far from forgotten. Its pieces - worn cotton, faded florals, and sturdy plaids - were stitched together by hands long gone, yet their presence is still felt in every square.

All are invited to the Christmas program at Lakeview Church this Sunday, December 14, at 10:00 a.m. The children will share their talents at the program, and a potluck dinner will follow.

Sympathy is extended to the family of one of Cody’s foundation residents, Barb Schmit, 103, of North Platte, whose residence was in Cody prior. Barb is lovingly remembered for her talents and love of music, shared with many over the years. Local survivors are Paula (Taylor) Marshall of Cody. Barb had 13 grandchildren, 25 greats and 3 great-great grandchildren. It was a life well lived.

December 4, 2025 – CBI – Bailey, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Park County Sheriff’s Office and the Park County Coroner’s Office, is making a renewed and expanded appeal for public assistance in identifying a man whose remains were discovered last year.

December 2, 2025—Nineteen states will raise their minimum wage on New Year’s Day to kick off 2026. Three other states and the District of Columbia have increases scheduled later in the year. Business owners across the country are welcoming the increases, saying they will boost consumer spending, reduce costly employee turnover, increase productivity, improve customer service, and strengthen local economies.

Last week the Valentine Police Department had a network issue. This week, it is back up, but the call numbers entered last week are limited because they weren’t able to access the server.

For more than 30 years, community leaders in Valentine have recognized the need for a larger, modern facility to host conferences, events, and regional gatherings. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for 27 years and served on the Cherry County Tourism Board since 2021, I’ve seen firsthand how this need has grown along with our tourism industry.

I just wanted to reach out and let you all know about a program called Project Share Your Story. It is a project by the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation to collect stories from Vietnam Era Veterans and share those stories.

This is a good time to reflect on our fortunes and those of the people around us. The holidays are a time for giving thanks and showing kindness to others. The Salvation Army is dedicated to helping those in need and is asking for community volunteers to ring the red kettle bell this holiday season. Last year, roughly 20 or so local community members and organizations volunteered to stand outside, braving biting winds and chilling temperatures to ring bells for those less fortunate.
