QR code scams on the rise

They show up on menus, posters and packages: QR codes. The black and white pixelated squares are seemingly everywhere, offering a quick way to pay for parking, view a restaurant menu or enter a contest.

Mountain lion sighting near Valentine

There have been two reports of a mountain lion sighted near Valentine, NE. One report was confirmed with a video of the mountain lion from Friday, August, 8, 2025, NW of Valentine, a second report is pending confirmation of a sighting near the city park north of Valentine on Sunday, August 10.

Providing school supplies for children in need around the world

August 6, 2025— As the summer season comes to an end, local families are preparing for the school year with back-to-school sales, but many families are not just shopping for their own children. Families are collecting school supplies, along with personal care items and fun toys, for children in need around the world. These items will fill Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts, which will be sent to children in over 100 countries—reminding children that God loves them and they are not alone.

Winners of the Sparks NE Spurs at Cherry County Fair

The Sparks NE Spurs of the Cowboy Fast Draw Association conducted a Town-Folk Alley at the Cherry County Fair allowing the public to shoot .45 Ruger and Pietta long colt pistols with wax bullets in a contest to give away a Pietta 1873 pistol and a Peacemaker CO 2 Airgun.
