Obituaries

Letha Kalenda/ Osburn, 85, of Winner, SD passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at the Butte Senior Living Center in Butte. Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Winner United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial followed in the Colome City Cemetery.

Kevin Reece, 57, passed away October 19, 2022 at his ranch home near Valentine. A Celebration of Life service will be held November 12, 2022 at the Valentine Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family as they establish a scholarship in his honor. Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine is assisting the family.

James Ray Sheet was born September 30 1933, he returned to the loving arms of Jesus October 18, 2022. James was family, a mentor, a confidant and a friend. In James' own written words: The sun and insatiable earth conspire to pull a disappearing act on all the water I pour on my plants. Of course, I am the slave in the whole process. Anything to prolong the look of summer. I get the sense I was born with a garden hose in my hand and sentenced to a life of watering forever. I look around at the incredible beauty of all the flowers, and I know it is worth the effort to be a co-worker in this ever changing feast of color. I can't paint pictures, but I can use plants to create a living work of art. As the years flash by with many fading dreams, I still have this gift and I am grateful. Some colors have faded from my palette. The Asiatic and oriental lilies have come and gone along with the piercing-red oriental poppies. The red and plumcolored hibiscus now join the mix of lavender Russian sage, bright yellow and orange dwarf cosmos, mixed-colored garden phlox, baby's breath, and a whole multitude of flowers vying for a place on the palette. The roses are hanging in, seemingly determined not to lose their preeminence in the theme of the show. Even the new ones: Judy Garland, Bull's Eye, and Perfume Delight are gearing up to make a last minute statement to bolster the place of roses as queens of all flowers. Waiting in the wings for their cue are the fall asters: white, blue, pink, wine and purple. Joining in the last hurrah of summer's art show are red, purple and yellow mums. Edie was born September 8, 1931 in Kilgore. The daughter of George Henry Monnier and Goldie Mae (Couser) Monnier. Growing up on the ranch, her family attended church every Sunday and she accepted the Lord as her Savior at a very young age. Edie loved to talk about Jesus, sharing His love and His blessings with anyone she came in touch with. She continued to be a living testimony of faith, until she was called home to Heaven. After high school she attended secretary school and took a job at Mount Rushmore Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD. Pete came into the office one day and Edie was attracted to the curl in his hair, she knew he was the one. Their first date was at the drive-in. Pete leaned over to give Edie a kiss, and she was alseep. Edie proposed to Pete and they were married three months later. This July they celebrated 70 wonderful years together. Pete joined the First Baptist Church of Rapid City, SD and they have been serving the Lord ever since. God blessed them with Sandi and Randy through adoption. They were the joy of Edie’s life. Her life continued to be blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a prayer warrior and never stopped praying for family and friends. She loved to dance around the kitchen while preparing food for her loved ones.

Jr. passed away on October 3, 2022 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center at the age of 86. He was born on June 19, 1936 in Wichita, KS, the youngest of three children to Leslie Angel Sr. and Delphia (Daniels) Honemann. He also had three step brothers and one step sister. Jr. married the love of his life, Viola on December 24, 1968 in Miami, OK. They spent 55 incredible years together until her passing in March of this year. They were blessed with seven children; Rocky Angel, Jean Angel (Rocket Ryals), Jeffrey Angel, Melinda Webb (Jack), Randy Jenkins (Janet), Felecia Danielski (Don) and Marty Otto. They have 11 grandsons and nine granddaughters as well as numerous great grandchildren.

Marilyn Elizabeth Robertson was born on July 28, 1935, to Harry and Pauline (Weisflog) Witte. She grew up south of Crookston on the family ranch with her parents and grandparents. Harry kept her busy in her early years as his unofficial first-born son, getting the milk cow in, helping in the hay field and lots of other chores. She was followed by three other siblings- Elaine, Don and Yvonne. She attended grade school at District 45, three years of high school in Seward at Concordia High School and her senior year back at Crookston High School. She then got her teaching certificate at Chadron College.

Vedah Pearl Galloway was born April 10, 1932, to George Whitcomb and Lola Rawles-Whitcomb. Vedah passed away at Brown County Hospital, Ainsworth.

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, John F. (Jack) Callaway, loving husband and father of three, passed away at the age of 79, at Brown County Hospital.

Kenneth W. Foster of Moore passed away from this life on August 16, 2021 at the age of 77. Kenneth was bom in Valentine, to David and Iva Foster (formerly Potter) two days after Christmas, December 27, 1943. Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966, where he was stationed in Europe and worked as an Aircraft Mechanic. Kenneth received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1966.

Patty Ann Brown, 78, of Valentine died Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her home after her kind and generous heart gave out. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, at Valentine United Methodist Church with Pastor Scott McClellen officiating. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines is in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will be at a later date.
