A bill to alleviate our child care crisis

insights frOm d.C . Experts are calling it a “child care crisis.” We have too few child care workers, too few child care providers, and too many parents seeking care that can’t be found.

What community means to us

W The remarkable character of the people of the Third District was unmistakable as I traveled around Nebraska during August. From a 102-year-old in McCook, to whom I presented a Congressional Gold Medal as one of World War II’s “Rosie the Riveters,” to the sharp and eager high school student members of my Youth Advisory Council, we are blessed with passionate citizens dedicated to service.

Property taxes will be less, not more next year

The Governor’s special session of the Nebraska Legislature has adjourned Sine Die. The 108th Nebraska Legislature is in the history books. I have still got some interim study hearings to complete, but I will never be “under the gavel” (in session) as a Senator on the floor of the legislative chamber again.

Get out - time to enjoy autumn!

Back in the day, the Omaha World-Herald provided me with a company car and the instructions: “drive across the state and find some stories.” It was obviously a more formal command than that, something like “if you like your job, you’ll write something interesting.” It was an incredible adventure in various vintages of Ford Taurus. On the road, you realize that there are fascinating stories – sometimes tragic and sad, sometimes heartwarming and uplifting – in every corner of the state.

Fighting wasteful spending

Our country is headed down a path of fiscal disaster. The Biden-Harris administration has created high prices through their reckless spending. It’s contributed to a national debt of over $35 trillion. That’s over $266,000 per household. It’s a second mortgage for Nebraska families. It’s raised grocery prices 22 percent. It’s slowed growth and stifled opportunity. Over the past two weeks, I’ve held a series of Federal Spending Briefings across Nebraska to highlight how I’m fighting this reckless spending.

IRS failure to protect law abiding families

Congressman Adrian Smith (RNE) released the following statement after the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) released a new report finding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has not yet fully implemented a 2022 directive by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen prohibiting the agency from using its $80 billion in stimulus funding to increase audits on taxpayers with incomes below $400,000.

A storied Nebraska tradition

WashingtOn d.C . You might notice the crispness in the air or the slight yellowing of the leaves or maybe even the wafting fragrance of roasting meat.

The marketplace speaks volumes

W According to a recent report by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, regulations issued by the Biden-Harris Administration have cost the average American household a total of nearly $50,000. From its electric vehicle mandate—expected to increase the price of a new vehicle by more than $6,000—to restrictions on household appliances and energy production, this kind of burden on families is unsustainable.

Pillen plan watered down

The summer session unfolded as a lot of people, including me, expected — a lot of ideas for reducing property taxes were discussed, but only a small, incremental change, one that will result in a three percent drop in property taxes for some taxpayers, was passed.

Kamala Harris’ radical record

nOte frOm d.C . Biden-Harris leadership has led to high prices and open borders.
