Guard members deserve to keep their untaxed duty and emergency pay

In 2021 I passed LB 387. This bill exempted military retired pay from Nebraska state income tax. For decades thousands of retiring service members, many of them Nebraskans, did not come home because they could live in a state that did not tax their retired pay. I am happy to report I have heard from an increasing number of retiring service members who have told me they are coming home to the state they were born and raised in, because of this bill. A senator does not often receive feedback from a bill passing that is as rewarding as this is. Causing this to happen is exactly why I introduced this bill.

Happiness is a change in government energy priorities

I have been getting a lot of calls from citizens concerned about a new renewable energy facility being built in their county. The federal government’s policies concerning renewable energy subsidies are driving out-of-state renewable energy companies to build their projects in Nebraska. The most effective way to stop them is to get the county government on your side.

Recognizing emergency responders

W Recent severe weather and wildfire disasters in Nebraska’s Third District have highlighted the critical role the Americans who serve our communities as firefighters, police, emergency medical service workers, and members of the National Guard play in protecting our communities and property and saving lives. As the men and women who dedicate themselves to service in the face of tragedy, crime, and disaster watch over us across the country, our emergency services do not take time off.

Appeal denied in Boswell case

OMAHA, (AP) — The Nebraska Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction and life sentence of a woman in the 2017 death and dismemberment of a Nebraska hardware store clerk. Bailey Boswell, 30, was convicted in 2020 of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and improper disposal of human remains in the death of 24-year-old Sydney Loofe.

Where to find $11.7B for taxes that’s not on your property?

When I began my service as a State Senator in 2017, there were roughly 60,000 job vacancies in the skilled trades in Nebraska. Now the department of labor will say the number is closer to 80,000 job vacancies.

Pushing back on unworkable executive mandates

W In 2014, President Obama famously said, “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone,” telling the American people he didn’t care whether Congress had provided legislative authority for his favored policies— he would go it alone whenever he felt like it. Ten years later, Obama’s then-Vice President, now-President Joe Biden has been ruling in the same fashion daily.
