Inaugural Art Walk on Main Street held May 26

On a very windy, Friday, May 26, 2023 in an effort to showcase the artistic talent that is within the community, the inaugural Art Walk was held. Pictured above is a drawing created by Dave Price for Security First Bank’s annual calendar. Artists were creating out on the sidewalks, or inside various downtown businesses.

Joan Swim is using oils as she paints the front of Broken Spoke’s building. She used a red underpainting to begin with. The inaugural Art Walk was a good beginning to usher in the Memorial Day weekend.

Zoey Mayhew is painting with acrylics in front of her mom’s shop, Broken Spoke. She is nine, almost 10, and enjoys art. Photos by Laura Vroman

David Dorsey was painting the new view on Main Street from his vantage point in front of Janine’s Emporium and said, “Oh yes, let’s do this again! I hope they keep it up.” The event allowed people to shop downtown after hours as well, and was sponsored by the Valentine Chamber of Commerce. Whitney Mayhew said that there are hopes that this is something that will keep on growing with additional artists to be added in the future.
