Kelvin L. Hawthorne, 73

Kelvin L. Hawthorne was born July 1, 1951 to Cecil and Orpha (Good) Hawthorne in Central City, NE. He received his education in the Fullerton Public Schools and graduated in 1969. Kelvin attended Midland Lutheran College and played football for one year.

He came back to help his father in the custom combining business in the summer going to Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. When the season was over he found employment in Columbus.

Working at Behlen Manufacturing, then on to work at Spencer Foods, and Carqillin Schuyler.

Kelvin met Priscilla Peterson, they were married January 27, 1979. They became parents to four sons, Derek, James, Joshua and Dustin (Dusty).

He went into law enforcement in June of 1982 and graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island. Kelvin was a police officer in Schuyler, Chief of Police in Nelson, then moved his family to Valentine in November 1987, where he was a police officer.

He moved to Council Bluffs, IA in June of 2004 and worked at Harrah’s Casino and retired in July of 2013.

Kelvin passed away October 21, 2024 in Council Bluffs, IA, Kelvin is survived by his four sons, Derek (Megan), James, Joshua and Dusty (Sammi); grandchildren, Addysen, Oaklei, Broden.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Ann, Barbara and Betty who passed October 26, 2024.

Graveside services will be held at Pierce Chapel in Clarks, November 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
