Monday, May 3, 2012, the Boys Golf team played at Ainsworth and came away in fourth place with 398 out of eight teams. O’Neill was in first place with 364, Burwell, 376; West Holt, 392; Valentine, 398; Ainsworth, 412; Boyd County, 450; along with teams from North Central and Sandhills Thedford.

Betty Mapes, regent for the Lone Willow Chapter (DAR) Daughters of the American Revolution presents an American Flag for the Merriman Memorial Cemetery to Gailund Valentine, Merriman Village Chairman. The Lone Willow Chapter traditionally awards a new American Flag to a person or entity that we feel needs one.

Elsmere – Anita Keys of Elsmere has been an Ag Pen Pal with students at Randolph Elementary in Randolph, for several years. This year Anita has been exchanging letters with fourth graders taught by Stephanie Harder..

National Tourism week was highlighted when Nebraska Tourism and Cherry County Tourism presented the Outstanding Frontline Employee Award to Whitney Mayhew of Broken Spoke in Valentine. As the Cherry County Tourism Director, Regina Osburn had the opportunity to nominate a business who puts Nebraska first and filled out the application for Mayhew.

The RC&D Electronic Recycling Collection held Tuesday, May 4, in Valentine was deemed a great success by Executive Director of the Nebraska Recycling Council Heather Creevan. “Our goal was to collect CRT TVs along with the normal electronic collection. Valentine had a great success!! Our Nebraska Environmental Trust grant was focused on collecting those old heavy TV’s that we probably aren’t using anymore. But it is hard to find a way to recycle. The grant afforded the opportunity for people to get rid of up to two TV’s per household for free. And by the results, those in and around Valentine were waiting for this opportunity.”

In what has had to have been one of the toughest years for moms the world over...wishing you a very happy Mother’s Day! The year of COVID-19 had every mother protecting her young ones, teaching them at home, preparing meals, and shopping with stealth; all to keep her family healthy and happy!
