Rick, Kitty and Mikah Vander-Wey and Mikah's boyfriend Tate spent the weekend with Brayden Hammer in Van Horne, IA to celebrate Paisley's fourth birthday. Brayden sang at the Crooked Antler in Van Horne Saturday night and they watched him perform. Paisley returned home with the VanderWeys to spend the week.

There were about 70 in attendance for the annual Lakeview Church picnic on July 4. It was a little cool, but still a pleasant day with food and visiting. The church will be a busy place this week as Prairie Light Youth Camp is going on with lots of kids and helpers taking part.

Master Gardener: Princess of India Nasturtium, colorful and delicious

Herbs grown for their leaves, such as Princess of India Nasturtium, 2024 Special Garden Project, should be exhibited with their stems, five stems for 4-H, and three stems for open class in a container of water. Leaves should be fresh and tender, free from blemishes, bruises, and insect and disease damage. Many herbs are best when harvested before they flower. After the herbs have grown, the essential oils change, and the flavor or scent may not be as desirable.

Recognizing body clues and sensations to aid in the next steps of labeling emotions is the first key skill in emotional intelligence. Unfortunately, these are not skills we are taught.
