Lincoln-Considering the recent, tragic news of the fires and deaths in Philadelphia and New York, the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency wants to remind everyone in the state of Nebraska of the importance of being fire safe during these cold winter months. Home heating fires are the second leading cause of fire deaths in the United States, and Nebraska is not immune. During the past three years Nebraska has suffered multiple fire fatalities in homes, where the fire cause was related to home heating and nonworking smoke alarms.

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts announced that the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has issued a new Directed Health Measure (DHM). The DHM suspends Class C, D, and E inpatient and outpatient surgeries (pre-scheduled, nonemergency medical surgeries) at The Nebraska Medical Center (NMC) in Omaha after the hospital facility chose to begin operating under a crisis standard of care January 13.

UNL awards degrees in December ceremonies The University of Nebraska-Lincoln conferred 1,344 degrees during commencement exercises December 17 and 18 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. In addition, the Class of 2020, as well as May and August 2021 graduates who were unable to attend their ceremonies, were celebrated.
