Governor Ricketts declared August 28 – September 3 Nebraska Drug Overdose Awareness Week

Lincoln – At a ceremony at the Nebraska State Capitol on August 8, 2022, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts declared August 28-September 3, 2022, Nebraska Drug Overdose Awareness Week, (NDOAW). Provisional data from CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics indicate there were an estimated 107,622 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2021, an increase of nearly 15% from the 93,655 deaths estimated in 2020.

Bennett County Hospital secures major USDA loan

Bennett County Hospital in conjunction with the USDA announced Tuesday, August 23 that they have been awarded a United States Department of Agriculture loan of $13,602,000 to move forward with a major hospital renovation in the coming two years. Combined with the Block Grant of $2,020,000 this will help fund the new building project. It will allow the facility to continue work on the construction of a new emergency room, a new patient and visitor entrance with new patient rooms at the acute care facility, as well as major remodeling in the physical therapy, lab and outpatient services area.

Our Savior Lutheran Church to host mission speaker

Our Savior Lutheran Church in Valentine invites you to attend our special mission event on Sunday, September 4. We will be welcoming mission speaker Gary W. Thies, who is a Mission Development Counselor with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Gary will give an exciting and interesting presentation on what is happening in the mission field around the world. Be sure to invite someone to come with you because you, too, are a missionary!

It’s an old fashioned ice cream social!!!

The Methodist Church in Valentine will sponsor an Ice Cream Social at the south entrance of the Church on Wednesday, August 24, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The fellowship hall will be available for those that prefer the air conditioning or in case of bad weather. Pies and home made ice cream will be served. Everyone is welcome to enjoy praise and worship time outside. A free will donation will be accepted.

Harmful algal blooms alert issued for three Nebraska lakes

Lincoln – The state has issued a health alert for Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB), also known as toxic blue-green algae, at Willow Creek Reservoir in Pierce County, Maskenthine Reservoir in Stanton County, and Iron Horse Trail Lake (Wildlife Management Area) in Pawnee County.
