Gov. Ricketts: Draft health standards still “Need improvement”

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts issued a statement following news that the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) had issued a new draft of health education standards. NDE is a state agency that is independently governed by the elected members of the State Board of Education. Governor Ricketts does not appoint the board members or agency staff.

Nebraska’s first West Nile case for 2021

LINCOLN, (AP)-State health officials have reported Nebraska's first human case this year of West Nile virus. A county health department officials in northeastern Nebraska reported a person there had tested positive for the mosquito-borne illness, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services reported Friday.

Attorney General Peterson announces $26 billion agreement with opioid distributors/manufacturer

Lincoln--Attorney General Doug Peterson announced a historic $26 billion multistate agreement that will help bring desperately needed relief to people across the country who are struggling with opioid addiction. The agreement includes Cardinal, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen – the nation’s three major pharmaceutical distributors – and Johnson and Johnson, which manufactured and marketed opioids. The agreement also requires significant industry changes that will help prevent this type of crisis from ever happening again.
