Registration open for Cowboy Trail 30th anniversary event

Celebrate 30 years of the Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail with a bike ride, dinner and social on the bridge on Friday, September 5 in Valentine. Register to attend the bike ride and dinner portions at OutdoorNebraska.

Lakeview Area News

Some wild weather on Sunday afternoon and evening kept peoples eyes on the sky, and on their cell phones checking radar. Tornadoes were spotted near Parmelee and St. Francis, and the Lakeview area had .30 to about 1.50” from several I had contact with. Swirling clouds, high winds, rain and some hail made for a little more excitement that most wanted, and a few ventured down to their basement to be on the safe side. Elliot and Cindy Yenglin lost about 30 bales due to a lightening fire also.

Most of the rains have been missing our south river country, which has helped with the haying, but making us nervous about the storms avoiding us so often. With the horrible photos of hailstorm damage, methinks we shall count our blessings.

District One Membership Tour for the American Legion

Nebraska Legion Department Officers, Department Auxiliary Officers, and any member of District One Legion and Auxiliary are invited to participate in the 2025 District One Membership Tour which has been set for July 31 - August 2. The tour is casual attire and you’re to make your own reservations.

During the week of July 13-19, the following arrest was made: • On July 16, at 4:20 p.m., officers responded to an assault in the 300 block of North Valentine Street. A 28 year old South Dakota woman was arrested and charged with Assault in the First Degree, a felony, and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.

Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory Open House set for August 20

North Platte, Neb., July 21 —The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory (GSL) will host its annual open house Wednesday, Aug. 20, near Whitman, Nebraska. The event invites all cattle producers and industry professionals to attend for the latest updates in the beef industry and current GSL research.
