Weaning can be one of the most stressful times of year for both calves and producers. Calves often spend their days walking fences, bawling for their mothers, and eating less - which can quickly lead to health issues and reduced performance. Choosing a weaning method that fits your operation, while keeping calves healthy and stress levels low, can make all the difference.

With Nebraska’s pheasant, quail and partridge seasons quickly approaching, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds upland hunters to be safe in the field. Game and Parks offers the following safety tips for upland bird hunters going afield this fall: • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, and never assume it isn’t.

Young readers in grades 4-12 are invited to write a personal letter to an author for the Nebraska Letters about Literature (LAL) contest, a state reading and writing promotion program. The letter can be to any author (living or dead) from any genre: fiction or nonfiction, contemporary or classic - explaining how that author’s work changed the student’s view of the world. Submissions must be completed online October 1 - December 31, 2025. Nebraska Letters About Literature is coordinated and sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book and the Nebraska Library Commission, with support from Lincoln City Libraries, Francie & Finch Bookshop, and Humanities Nebraska.

Duane and Janet Cady, and grandson Taylor Monroe flew from Grand Island to Austin, TX to spend several days with Taylor’s son and Duane and Janet’s great grandson, Beckett, his mom, Courtney Chasin, and her parents Linda and Alan Greagrey. I’ve also been sounding the alarm on the bleak state of our ag economy and the negative impacts facing Nebraska’s ag industry—the economic driver of our state. Bottom line: if the goal is addressing beef prices at the grocery store, this isn’t the way. Right now, government intervention in the beef market will hurt our cattle ranchers. The U.S. has safe, reliable beef, and it is the one bright spot in our struggling ag economy. Nebraska’s ranchers cannot afford to have the rug pulled out from under them when they’re just getting ahead or simply breaking even. I strongly encourage the Trump administration to focus on trade deals that benefit our ag producers— not imports that will do more harm than good.”
