Counting our blessings Sunday, July 20!

With all of the disasters that have been going on throughout the U.S., it not only looked like it could have been our turn, but it sounded like it as well. Forecasters had shared the likelihood of tornadoes in the vicinity, along with severe thunderstorms. At 7:49 p.m., an emergency alert was activated and sent out through people’s phones about severe thunderstorm warning with baseball size hail. People were warned to take shelter.

BHS Kilgore CUP expired says research done by Zoning Administrator

In the July 9, 2025 edition of the Valentine Midland News, BSH Kilgore, LLC, refuted the findings of theCherryCountyZoningAdministrator saying, “The Administrator’s assertions that the conditional use permit has expired and that BSH Kilgore has not complied with the permit’s conditions are factually inaccurate and unsupported by the public record.”

Some warm weather and humidity made for a few uncomfortable days and renewed my appreciation of air conditioning. The corn fields are loving this weather – it’s amazing how much its grown in a weeks time. My friend Sara said it was hot enough to make the devil cry!

Judge Kozisek ruled in favor of TK Angus CUP permit

District Judge Mark Kozisek ordered the County Board of Commissioners with directions to issue Conditional Use Permit, CUP-001/23, in his judgment of TK Angus vs. Cherry County Board of Commissioners, Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Starry nights and educational days with NSP 32

Step into the Darkness is the theme for the 32nd annual Nebraska Star Party which will be held July 20-25, at Merritt Reservoir’s Snake Arm, and Wednesday, July 23 at the Valentine High School. Of course, weather permitting, Friday, July 25 is the Public Star Party, from 9:00 p.m. until midnight.

Storyteller and musician Chris Sayre is coming to Valentine, as part of the Nebraska Star Party Thursday, July 24, 2025. Chris Sayre will present programs at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Niobrara National Scenic River Visitor Center, 214 West Highway 20.
