Apr 24, 2025 - In conjunction with the statewide ban on fires through April 30, Nebraska Game and Parks is implementing a temporary ban on campfires, effective immediately, at all Nebraska state park areas and wildlife management areas.

Participate in the third Nebraska Birding Bowl and learn about birds, enjoy the outdoors and contribute data toward bird conservation. This fun, free statewide competition is returning this May for Nebraska Bird Month.

It’s fishing season and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has a lineup of Community Fishing Events scheduled across the state for family fun beginning in May. Community Fishing Events provide opportunities for people of all ages who have never fished or have not fished in years to learn and enjoy the activity.

Visitors to state park areas in southwestern Nebraska will find enhanced day-use and camping amenities. Projects in the works or completed will appeal to an array of park users. The following is a roundup of those improvements and projects:

The Valentine Badgers competed at the West Holt Invitational, Thursday, April 24, 2025. Individual boys results are as follows: 100 Meter Dash - fourth place, Dominic Beebout, 11.69; sixth place, Trystan Beebout, 12.

Lately, we have talked a lot about funding, which those discussions are still going on and we will have to see how things pan out. I meet with the Nebraska Department of Transportation this week regarding the next two-year funding cycle and much of what we will be able to dowilldependonfinancial“match” commitments, made here at the local level. These investments are what leverage 50-90 percent of federal and state dollars that are returned to communities, such as Valentine. This is for local programs.

There was wind, a little hail, thunder and lightning on Sunday night, but the best part was rain! Several reports of rain include 1.10” at Yenglin’s and 1.40” at the Walt Lurz place. Answered prayers!
