David Dorsey is the Artist of the Month

Artist of the month for September is David Dorsey a lifelong Nebraska resident, and Valentine resident since 2012. Dorsey is a fulltime artist who displays his work in various shows throughout the state and on a national level.

From my Window

Reunions are social gatherings wherepeoplewhohaven’tseeneach other for a long time come together, such as family or school reunions, or the situation of meeting again after a long absence. These events provide an opportunity for members of a group to reconnect, reminisce, and create new memories. There are many reunions of various types in every community and is a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and loved ones after a period of separation, to reminisce about past experiences, to update each other and form new bonds as well as celebrating a shared history.

Sorry I haven’t had much news lately. In the mad rush of the end of summer/start of fall, it seems like there are three things going on at all times. We have been blessed with some rain this past weekend, hopefully to get a bit of grass growing before the cold sets in. Most of the haying is wrapping up and bales are being hauled into the stackyards as the area starts to winterize equipment for the year.

Garwood selected to join UNL Honors Program

LINCOLN, NE, September 10, 2025 - Jenalee Garwood of Valentine, an agricultural leadership, education and communication major in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, is among a record 739 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students selected to join the University Honors Program this fall. The cohort is 15 percent larger than the previous record class in 2019.

Ricketts statement on the death of Charlie Kirk

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) released the following statement after it was announced that Charlie Kirk died following a shooting at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10, 2025: “Charlie Kirk was participating in the very American act of political dialogue when he was taken from us. He was a husband, son, and father of two little children. Political violence is anti-American. It’s an attack against our very values. It’s an attack on our republic. In our great country, we settle our disagreements with ballots, not bullets. Please join me in prayer for his family as they mourn.”

Highly pathogenic avian influenza detected in Nebraska dairy herd

LINCOLN –The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the detection of a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a dairy herd in Nebraska. This is the first known case of HPAI in dairy cattle in the state. The herd is located in central Nebraska and has been quarantined.
