As we move into the second full week of the legislative session, I remain focused on addressing the unique challenges faced by rural Nebraskans and laying the groundwork for meaningful progress. From tackling the mental health care shortage in rural areas to reducing financial burdens on businesses, my efforts this week reflect a deep commitment to strengthening Nebraska and fostering equity for all our communities.

Teeing up winning policy

W Recent discussions I have had with President Trump and my congressional colleagues highlight both the significant challenges and the opportunity we will soon have to get our country back on the right track. After four years of inflationary spending under the Biden-Harris administration, voters have demanded a change in leadership and policy.

Open Plains Transit Hosts Community Meetings

Director of Transportation for Open Plains Transit (OPT), Jonnie Kusek, hosted two community input meetings January 9, which were held at the Mid-Plains Community College in Valentine. Kusek kicked off these two back-to-back meetings with a presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation to Members of The Pestel Charitable Foundation that were present at the meeting.

Could the Legislature dish up a state dessert in 2025

As the State Legislature gets to work on its 90-day session, it’s time to consider whether the Unicameral should resolve an important, and regularly overlooked matter — designating a state dessert. Face it, we all love dessert and naming an official state dessert is long overdue.
