Congratulations to All Conference VB students from VHS and C-K

Congratulations to VHS Kinsey Buechle for being selected to All Conference Volleyball. Coach Julie Serbyn said, “Kinsey was an allaround player for her team this year. She led her team in blocks, was second in digs, had 74 kills, and ran our offense with 391 assists. We compete in a conference that had two state-placing teams. Her recognition as an All-Conference athlete is a tremendous honor, and we are so proud of her!”

November firearm deer harvest lower than last year

Preliminary Nebraska deer check-in numbers indicate 2022 statewide harvest is down nine percent compared to 2021 for the November firearm season. During the nine-day season, which was November 12-20, 33,866 deer were harvested, compared to 37,053 in 2021.

Learning loss evident through release of K-12 test scores

Amid a national dip in student test performance nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic, Nebraska’s newly released test scores show learning loss that will soon need to be addressed. The state’s K-12 test scores from 2021-22 were released on Wednesday, November 23.

Interact Club gives back to the community

The Valentine Rotary Interact Club has been busy giving back to the community this school year. The Interact Club members are high school students that develop leadership skills, take action to make a difference in their schools and community, and discover the power of “ Service Above Self.” The Interact Club members have worked alongside the Valentine Rotary Club to pick up litter along Highway 20 southeast of town, collected 23 units of blood during their fall Red Cross Blood Drive at the high school.

Intro to Life held for sophomore students in six area schools

At one of the many tables set up, students have a pile of bills and coins - looking a bit like a poker table - yet this class is anything but a gamble! Students from Cody-Kilgore, Valentine, Thedford, Ainsworth, Rock County and Keya Paha schools were gathered Thursday, November 17, at the Cherry County Fairgrounds to collectively learn life skills. There were several stations set up for students to learn what goes into making real life decisions.

VHS FBLA students present Badger Den at Nebraska Department of Education conference

On Thursday, November 3, 2022 Valentine FBLA members had an amazing experience at the NETForce Entrepreneurship Best Practices Summit in Kearney. Six students got to work on networking and communication skills with some of the top entrepreneurs in the state. VHS was asked by Mary Janssen, Career Field Specialist at the Nebraska Department of Education, to present at the conference. Hanna Bitner and McKenna Elliott led that session about our school store, the Badger Den! They did an amazing job on representing Valentine High School and our community. In their presentation, they highlighted the history of The Badger Den, our products, our struggles and our success.

Cowgirls end their season against Warriors

The Cowgirls ended their season after the first round of sub districts in a tough match against Sioux County Warriors. Scoring as follows: Set 1: 30-32 Warriors Set 2: 27-25 Cowgirls Set 3: 16-25 Warriors Set 4: 15-25 Warriors.
