Give the Gift of Preserving the Garden’s Harvest

Prepare your favorite gardener for the next harvest season with some food preservation supplies and equipment.

Changes to Jane Keller Memorial Art Show

Some small changes in the categories and definitions have been made to the JKMAS this year. We will still have the same three age groupings for Youth, Adult, and Professional. This year though we will have a total of seven categories, six of which will be judged. All Sandhills area artists are welcome to participate. All works must be of original thought and creation by the artist submitting. All artists should submit their own work. Any works submitted on behalf of another person will automatically be entered into the Exhibition category and will not be judged. Photography, Post-Processed Photography, Paintings, and Drawings are all required to be ready to be hung securely. Some Mixed Media and Textiles will also be required to be ready to hang when applicable. If your piece is smaller and on flat paper, you should mount it on stock card or thicker board with a two inch border, so that string can be taped on it to be hung or secured in some fashion (like tape or staples) to a display board or wall, and potentially to tape a ribbon on it, if you win a prize. Sculptures will be displayed on a flat surface, table, or display area.

Whip up a meal for quick entertaining

Entertaining guests is a labor of love. Much effort goes into preparing a home for the arrival of friends and family, and that includes planning a menu that will accommodate as many people as possible.

Deer hunters reminded to follow four key safety rules

The November firearm deer season is quickly approaching, and hunters are reminded to follow the four primary rules of firearm safety: • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded; • Always point the muzzle of your firearm in a safe direction; • Be sure of your target, what is in front of it, and what is beyond it; and • Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire. Hunters that follow these four rules greatly reduce the risk of causing a hunting incident.
