September 2, 2024, the Valentine Police Department recognized Officer Brandon Ormesher for 10 years of service with the police department. Officer Ormesher began his first responder career as an Emergency Communications Dispatcher for the Cherry County Justice Center.

Located directly west of Circle K Motors, Circle K Tire Pros, is an enterprise owned by Rowdy Kluender. Rowdy has informal education dating back to his early years when he worked on vehicles on his family’s ranch.

On Schedule: Day 20 of 263 The detour for the above project is in place, utilizing US-83 North of Valentine, unpaved county roads 906th, Nolett Road, and Whitetail Road before returning to highway 12. Traffic control for the detour is being monitored, signs will be added, or sign placement changed for safety and traffic flow. A 12’ width restriction has been placed on the unpaved section of the detour.

Preparations have started for the West 4th Street (US HWY-83 North) project. Paulsen Construction was awarded the contract and has a tentative start date of April 1, 2025. This three-quarter mile long project starts west of 4th and Main Street and ends at the Minnechaduza Creek Bridge along HWY 83 north. For this project, a Detour is planned for 3rd Street during the school break of the summer of 2025.

The Sandhills Area Foundation is pleased to announce a significant donation of nearly $500,000 from the estate of the late Michael Davenport. This generous contribution will primarily be allocated as endowed funds. The finance committee of the Sandhills Area Foundation is reviewing options for the most effective way to allocate this wonderful gift.

Pagers were going off Friday, September 20, 2024, at 4:40 p.m. The Valentine Fire Department responded to a grass fire east of town, and were on scene for 1.5 hours. Their expedient response resulted in only five acres of burned ground. The fire started buy a piece of construction equipment.

Incidents/Arrests On 09/08/2024 at 7:11 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of Donaher Street. A 31 year old Valentine man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and flight to avoid arrest.

People interested in becoming a Nebraska Master Naturalist still have time to sign up for the October training session at the Crane Trust Nature and Visitor Center in Wood River. The workshop, designated as a Core 24 training session, allows participants to learn about Nebraska’s natural resources and achieve “Master Naturalist In-Training” status.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2024 (SCOTTSBLUFF, NEB.) — Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Garden County Sheriff’s Deputy following an investigation into a report of sexual assault. NSP began investigating the case in July at the request of the Attorney General’s Office.
