Ceresco police officer killed in the line of duty

APRIL 13, 2024 LINCOLN — The Nebraska State Patrol is heartbroken to announce the passing of Ceresco Police Officer Ross Bartlett. Bartlett also served as an investigator for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. Officer Bartlett died Friday evening after his patrol until was struck by another vehicle while he was performing a traffic stop.

Online mapping service helps protect workers, sensitive crops, pollinators

Lincoln— Pesticides are used in agriculture to help farmers protect crops from pests, diseases, and weeds. Some crops, like fruit and vegetable specialty crops, and the pollinators of those crops, can be sensitive to pesticides. That’s why the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) contracts with FieldWatch™, an online mapping service designed to help pesticide applicators, commercial specialty crop growers and beekeepers communicate with one another to protect crops and pollinators from pesticides. Pesticides include all categories of pest control products such as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.

Properly taken soil tests can help gardeners understand the nutrient levels in the garden, and which nutrients need to be amended for the plant material and garden crops that have been or will be planted in the future. Once gardeners receive this information, they can make informed decisions on how much nutrients need to be applied for the growing season, depending on the plants in the landscape or the garden.

City Council approves new pool rates

The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting, Thursday, April 11, 2024 in the City Library Meeting Room. The following were in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Manager Shane Siewert, Councilembers Kyle Arganbright, Kalli Kieborz, Neil Wescott, Brad Arnold, and Ross Brockley. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
