Kevin Kilmer sentenced to life in prison for murder

Kevin Kilmer, 28, was sentenced by Judge Mark Kozisek in Cherry County District Court, Friday, November 17, 2023, for the 2021 murder of Ruth Ann Wittmuss, 52, which occurred in Kilgore. The trial took place August of this year where Kilmer was convicted of the crime of Murder, and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.

His love endures forever!

November has many familiar attributes, but what comes to mind above all else is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is an opportunity for everybody to take a moment to consider and treasure the blessings that they cherish. In his first published book, Sketches by Boz, Charles Dickens wrote, “Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” Those blessings that we are currently afforded are found through relationships – our faith, our family, and our friends.

Troopers urge safety for Thanksgiving travel

Lincoln-Family, friends, and feasts are on tap this Thanksgiving. The Nebraska State Patrol reminds all travelers that safe driving is part of the recipe for a great holiday weekend.

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor, When was the last time you shook the hand of a veteran? Offering help and support for what they’ve done for you and me? Letting know how much respect them for their time spent protecting us and given up their life if need comes. Some people take Veterans Day as a day off, not knowing what it’s like unless you were in their shoes.

Fighting for Nebraska’s children

As Attorney General, one of my most solemn obligations is to protect Nebraska’s children from those who prey upon them. And as a dad with four school-aged children, I know firsthand the challenges of being a parent in today’s age. Unfortunately, reckless and predatory companies exist that target children and would do them harm. We won’t stand by and let that happen; our office is leading the fight to protect our communities and our children with two important lawsuits.

NRPPD and NPPD agree to pursue wholesale power supply contract

Northwest Rural Public Power District (NRPPD) and Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) have agreed to pursue a wholesale power supply contract starting May 1, 2024, following votes by NRPPD’s and NPPD’s Board of Directors.

Arrests/Incidents On 11/06/2023 at 11:18 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Main Street. A 34 year old Valentine man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and refusal of the chemical test.
