Know your City Ordinances pertaining to snow

Valentine Police Chief Dana Miller would like to remind readers of the City Ordinance that pertains to snow, and weather emergencies. Valentine City Ordinance pertaining to Snow and Weather Emergencies: It is unlawful to park or stand any vehicle on any highway in the city at any time within 12 hours after a snowfall of four inches or more has occurred within a 24-hour period if the snow has not been removed within that time on the following streets and alleys: Cherry Street: From First Street to Fourth Street.

Governor Pillen recognizes Trooper, Deputy for heroic actions

December 22, 2023, LINCOLN — Governor Jim Pillen recognized two law enforcement officers for their life-saving actions following a crash on Thanksgiving evening. On Thursday, November 23, at approximately 9:45 p.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near mile marker 163.

Farm Succession workshops to be held

The Nebraska Rural Response Hotline, together with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture Beginning Farm Tax Credit and Negotiations Programs, and the Farm and Ranch Project of Legal Aid of Nebraska, are sponsoring free 3-4 hour workshops for farm and ranch families. These workshops will cover basic estate and succession planning (tools, considerations and decisions); the use of business entities in farm and ranch succession; finance and management issues in succession planning; transfer, death, and other tax issues, including the portability election; and options, buys-sell agreements, leases and preemptive rights. The aim of the program is educational: to provide reliable information that may assist farm and ranch families in putting together business succession plans, or in reviewing their existing plans.

Christmas blizzard of 2023

With unseasonably warm temperatures the month of December, those who hoped for a white Christmas were happy to see snow in the forecast...which changed to blizzard conditions and I-80 Expressway closures; ultimately impacting friends and family who were trying to make it to the Sandhills to enjoy the Reason for the Season.

The earlier forecast for Christmas looked great, but the weather changed and it was a stormy weekend. Some family plans changed because of the weather, but compared to a year ago, we were golden! The Jesse Logterman family of Sioux Falls and Jon Logterman family from Iowa arrived at the Dwight and Marvanne Logterman home on Saturday for the Christmas weekend.

Wreaths Across America held December 16

The day was brisk, cloudy, and windy, reminding us that many of the service men and women who were laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, served in these very conditions. The National Wreaths Across America program began at 11:00 a.m., to coincide Nationally with other cemeteries who were placing wreaths on servicemen and women’s graves.
