2023 Cherry County 4-H Friends of 4-H

Each year the Cherry County 4-HCouncilrequestsnominations from 4-H youth and families for the Friend of 4-H Award. This award goes to outstanding volunteers/ supporters in an individual division and a business division. The 2023 winners are Ryan Sexson and Security First. Below are nomination notes.

Mid Plains recognizes Carrie Reinders

On Monday, July 24, Adjunct Faculty member Carrie Reinders was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of 10 years of Adjunct Teaching with Mid-Plains Community College.

Animals testing positive for rabies in Nebraska

Lincoln – Nebraskans need to be aware of the risk of getting rabies from wild animals, especially bats. Nine animals have tested positive for rabies so far this year, eight of them were bats.

AAA urges drivers to stay alert as students return to school

Omaha-As students across Nebraska and Iowa begin heading back to school over the coming weeks, AAA urges motorists to wear seatbelts, slow down, stay alert in neighborhoods, and school zones. Also, to be especially vigilant for pedestrians during beforeand after-school hours. Children are particularly vulnerable during the afternoon hours following their school day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 64 percent of child pedestrians killed in traffic crashes occurred during the weekday - 6:00 a.m. Monday to 6:00 p.m. Friday - in 2021, NHTSA Traffic Safety Facts. The goal is to always look out for all pedestrians on roadways everywhere.

Lincoln – The days leading up to a new school year bring excitement for some students, parents and guardians, but also can be a source of stress and anxiety. When feeling anxious, Nebraska’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) suggests the following actions as the first day of school nears.

George and Jodi Arnold are hosting two exchange students again this year, who arrived over the weekend. Nuria is a sophomore from Spain and Agatha, who is from Italy, is a senior. We welcome them to the area and hope they have a great school year at Cody-Kilgore High School.

Back to school, back to school, here we go back to school

Here it is, August. Summer has flown by and already there is Halloween candy roaming the shelves of Walmart. For most of us, August also brings the normal adjustment of transitioning back to the school year. It is normal for this to look differently for everyone, especially depending upon the age of your child. You may find yourself stressing to find the school supplies list, supporting your youth through two a day practices for athletic season or looking forward to getting back to the routine of the school year.

Crossroads Assembly to host Pastor Dobie Weasel

Pastor Dobie Weasel will be ministering at Crossroads Assembly at 404 East Highway 20 in Valentine August 18-20. Pastor Dobie has ministered as a pastor and evangelist, as well a camp meeting and conference speaker throughout the U.S. and Canada for over 30 years.
