What I learned visiting law enforcement in 93 counties

This year when I came into office, it was a priority for me to build relationships with law enforcement across the state. In January, I started by visiting Colfax County, and over the subsequent months, I have driven across Nebraska to courthouses and communities from Arthur to Wayne County to Webster County. As this is being written, I am wrapping up a 93-county tour.

As we approach the end of 2023, I am reflecting on all that the Social Security Administration has accomplished, despite considerable challenges. It’s been my great privilege to lead Social Security’s approximately 60,000 employees for the past 2.5 years, and I’m so proud of the work they’ve done to fulfill our mission.

City Council approves to extend Shopko building option purchase

The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the City Library Meeting Room. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. with the following in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Manager Shane Siewert, Council members Ross Brockley, Brad Arnold, Neil Wescott, and Kyle Arganbright.

Cherry Hills Estates hosts divinity contest

Cherry Hills Estates Assisted Living Old Fashioned Divinity Contest was a sweet deal. With 13 entries, three judges, three prizes and a room full of residents, family and friends our blood sugar raised and our sweet tooth was satisfied.

Nebraska minimum wage increases to $12.00 effective January 1, 2024

LINCOLN – Nebraska’s minimum wage will increase to $12 per hour effective January 1, 2024. In accordance with an initiative passed by voters in November of 2022, the minimum wage will increase $1.50 each year through 2026, followed by an annual cost of living increase beginning in 2027. The minimum hourly wage for tipped employees is $2.13 per hour. Employers are responsible for ensuring that wages and tips combined equal at least the minimum wage.
