The blue water mains are being laid six feet underground. You can see the special connections they have at the T’s. There is a special tool that is used to tighten the connections. When the bolt is as tight as it should be, it will snap off for safety and a secure fit. Photo courtesy of NDOT

MPCC announces spring President’s List A total of 129 students qualified for the President’s List during the 2022 spring semester at Mid-Plains Community College. To make the list, each student had to complete 12 or more applicable credit hours in college-level courses and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.9 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

Friends of Niobrara collect over a dozen bags in roadside clean-up

Four members of the Friends of the Niobrara conducted their annual roadside clean-up on Saturday, May 21, 2022 near Sparks. Mark Brohman, Tim Knott, Adam Thody, and Rosemary Thornton, all of Lincoln, were joined by Nadine Salas, an intern with the Niobrara National Scenic River from the Valentine office.

May Spring Freeze

When freeze warnings are posted, gardeners carefully cover susceptible garden vegetables and flowers with blankets, sheets, buckets, and garbage cans. But larger shrubs and trees must fend for themselves. The freeze this past weekend left many woody plants across the panhandle with brown, drooping leaves and shoots.

Columbus, NE - Electric customers in Nebraska may soon be receiving an email request to participate in the 2022 Residential Appliance Survey, which helps inform Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) on how residential customers are using electricity and how that might change in the future.
