USDA opens state-of-the-art livestock insects research laboratory to combat livestock pests

May 27, 2026 – The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) opened the Knipling-Bushland U.S. Livestock Insects Research Laboratory, a state-of-the-art laboratory facility today that will provide the U.S. cattle industry with innovative tools and advanced technologies to manage and eliminate the invasive fly and tick pests that threaten the U.S. cattle industry.

Nebraska Extension to host Summer Stocker/ Yearling Tour near Broken Bow

Lincoln, NE ~ June 1, 2026 — Nebraska Extension will host its annual Summer Stocker/Yearling Tour on June 23 near Broken Bow, offering cattle producers an opportunity to learn from Nebraska operations managing through ongoing drought conditions and explore current research and management strategies for stocker and yearling systems.

Tangy Rhubarb Cream Cheese Squares For the crust: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup powdered sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes For the filling: 3 cups rhubarb, chopped into 1/2-inch pieces 1 cup granulated sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 2 large eggs 8 oz cream cheese, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Preheat oven to 350°F . Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

First issuance of summer EBT benefits going out to families

Lincoln, NE – The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will issue its first round of Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) benefits. Summer EBT is available to families with eligible school-age children to help them buy groceries during the summer months.

Microsurfacing work will begin on N-70 in Wheeler County

May 27, 2026 (Ainsworth, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work will begin May 29 on Nebraska Highway 70 (N-70), from reference post 171.94 proceeding east to reference post 179.94 at the Wheeler/ Antelope County Line, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
