From shame to joy

Several years ago my husband came in contact with something that gave him a serious skin infection on his neck. He noticed it first on Saturday as he began to have flu like symptoms driving home from our weekend in the mountains. On Sunday the swelling continued up from his chin and neck area; and it eventually became significant by Sunday night. We went to the ER down the road. Not a lot was said by the two doctors who examined him carefully. But one was so kind he gave us his personal cell number. (Only later did I realize how concerned he was.) Doctors eventually put him in the hospital on Wednesday with IV medication for 24 hours. There was concern the swelling and infection could go to his brain. All was well after the hospital medication and a couple of his favorite smoothies!

Oh Lord, it is so good to be back

Leaving after dialysis on November 1, Mary and I met her daughter, Lucy, in North Platte, who drove us to Lincoln. The purpose of the trip was to have tests to determine if I was a candidate for a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, a procedure claimed to be quite successful on elderly patients.

REGISTER TO RING

When the weather dips below freezing in Valentine, Nebraska, most of the city’s residents do their best to stay indoors as much as possible. But in 2020, roughly 108 community members volunteered to stand outside, braving biting winds and bone-chilling temperatures to ring bells asking for donations. Since the Salvation Army first began collecting donations in kettles in the late 1800s, the organization has relied on volunteers to do the bulk of its bell ringing.
