Cherry County Historical Society elects new officers discuss fate of Mears Cabin

One of the topics discussed at their recent meeting was the condition of the Mears Cabin. Built in 1882 for David Y. Mears who was a surveyor. Charles Bowden’s father cut the logs for the cabin in 1882 and Mears was named Postmaster that same year. By 1884, he was living in Chadron and James Morris along with John Tucker occupied the building and established a newspaper.
