Memorial Day services held in Wood Lake and Valentine

AmericanLegionPost202inWood Lake held their Memorial Day services Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Wood Lake. Legion Adjutant Walter Ries, Jr., welcomed those gathered to remember the solemn occasion.

IN VALENTINE projects update

The Cherry Street detour and all temporary traffic control signs have been removed. Traffic is now directed to a newly constructed Main Street - Highway 83.

Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame 2023 inductees, June 10

Main Street completion celebration scheduled for June 9

The detour signs are gone, traffic is flowing, and it’s time to celebrate that construction is completed on Valentine’s Main Street! Friday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m., a ribbon cutting will be held with the Valentine Chamber of Commerce to mark this momentous occasion! There will also be bands, burgers, and an information update on the possible purchase of the former Shopko building at City Hall.

K9 Baker donations!

In 2022, the Valentine City Council, along with countless donors, funded reestablishing the Valentine Police Department’s Narcotic Detection K9 program. In October of 2022, VPD Handler, Officer Brandon Ormesher, traveled to Arkansas to meet the department’s new narcotic detection K9, Baker. Baker, along withOfficerOrmesher,spentaweek in training at Bluestreak K9s with instructor Blake Bristow learning how to work together to detect the odor of narcotics, as well as how to track missing persons, articles and suspects.

The sculpture walk on Valentine’s Main Street

There are three sculptures that are gracing Valentine’s Main Street with a fourth to come. Placed to spark conversation, the sculptures will be on display through this autumn, possibly spring of 2024.

Governor Pillen announces deployment of State Troopers to Texas border

LINCOLN – Governor Jim Pillen announced he has authorized the deployment of 10 state troopers to the Texas border effective immediately. The deployment comes in response to a request for assistance from the state of Texas, and follows Governor Pillen’s promise to back Texas and Governor Greg Abbott in their fight to protect the southern border from illegal immigrants and dangerous drugs entering the country. Texas has accepted Nebraska’s Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) offer for support from the Nebraska State Patrol.

VPD reported offenses, citations, and arrests, May 14-20

Incidents/Arrests On 05/14/2023 at 11:26 p.m., an officer responded to the 600 block of North Valentine Street in regard to multiple thefts from vehicles. Three suspects were seen fleeing the area.
