OMAHA, Nebraska — A recent study of more than 1,000 people in alcohol treatment found that nearly one in three never escape the crushing anxiety or depression that often accompanies early sobriety — a red flag that may predict relapse and signal the need for more targeted care.

Garwood selected to join UNL Honors Program

LINCOLN, NE, September 10, 2025 - Jenalee Garwood of Valentine, an agricultural leadership, education and communication major in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, is among a record 739 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students selected to join the University Honors Program this fall. The cohort is 15 percent larger than the previous record class in 2019.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza detected in Nebraska dairy herd

LINCOLN –The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the detection of a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a dairy herd in Nebraska. This is the first known case of HPAI in dairy cattle in the state. The herd is located in central Nebraska and has been quarantined.

August traffic fatality toll

September 15, 2025, Lincoln, NE — During the month of August 2025, 22 people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

During the week of September 7-13, the following arrests were reported by the Valentine Police Department: • On September 7, at 2:47 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle idling in the road in the 100 block of North Cherry Street. A 26 year old Nebraska man was arrested for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol.
