Stanley K. Lucas, 90

Stanley Keith Lucas was born to Shirley “Sy” Lucas and Lena (Thomsen) Lucas at the family farm near Crookston, on July 27, 1932, joining a sister, Shirley. The family moved from farm to farm, so he went to 10 different grade schools. He graduated from Crookston High School in 1951. He worked at neighboring farms for Chicoine Implement, Luther Tractor, Watts Funeral Home based in Valentine, and a seismograph crew before enlisting in the Army during the Korean Conflict, when he was stationed at White Sands, New Mexico.

Dale D. Thompson

Dale Dewayne Thompson was born April 12, 1932, in Norden, to Mabel (Phillips) and Earl Thompson. He welcomed brother Gene in 1933 and sister Carol in 1936. The family made their home during his youth in Norden, Sparks, Ainsworth, and Valentine, and Sundance, WY.

“Tim” Harlan R. Stiefel, 84

“Tim” Harlan Ralph Stiefel, 84, of Denton, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at home. “Tim” Harlan, son of Ralph Frederick and Lydia Katherine (Epke) Stiefel, was born on July 19, 1938, in a birthing home in Cherry County.

Judith A. Mayhew, 78

Judith Anne Mayhew (Witt) was born on April 20, 1945, in Ainsworth, to Walter and Grace Witt (Tays). She was married on August 26, 1962, to Sid Mayhew. She passed away in her home on June 5, 2023, in Valentine, at the age of 78.

Lydia I. Greder, 74

Lydia Irene (Ambrose) Greder was born September 28, 1948, in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, to Joseph C. and Patricia (Brenneman) Ambrose. She passed away at the age of 74 with family at her side at the family farm in Johnstown, on June 7, 2023.

Michael W. Davenport, 83

Michael Wade Davenport was born to Wade and Pauline Davenport on June 11, 1940, in Huntington Park, CA. Michael passed away on May 20, 2023, at Parkside Manor in Stuart.

Beau M. Buchan, 38

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Beau Michael Buchan. Beau passed away June 4, 2023, in Lucas, Iowa. Beau was born March 22, 1985, to Byron Buchan and Nichole Moran in Gordon. Beau spent most of his childhood in Nebraska and during this time made several life-long friends including Bryan Easton, Daniel Reutter and Jamie Deckert. Together with Beau these three were known as “The Four Horseman”. Throughout Beau’s life he worked many jobs. Although most of his adult life was spent in Colorado, Beau was able to travel to many different places through the jobs that he held. He was able to travel the country from one ocean to the other.

Carol L. Johnson, 79

Carol Lenore Johnson, age 79, passed away peacefully in Lincoln on June 1, 2023 in the loving presence of her family. Her family’s hearts are heavy and feel her loss, however, her gallant fifteen year fight with cancer has ended.

Alma P. Valandra, 84

Alma was born on February 19, 1939 in Pine Ridge, SD to Thomas and Jeanette (Ross) Conroy. Alma was the second eldest of five children. She grew up on the Pine Ridge reservation and graduated high school in 1957 from OCHS in Pine Ridge as Valedictorian of her class. She then attended the University of South Dakota, later transferring to St. Mary’s school of Nursing where she received her LPN degree.

Neil D. Stoecker, 84

Niel D. Stoecker Sr., 84, of Grand Island, passed away on May 30, 2023 at CHI Health St. Francis. Funeral services were held June 2, 2023 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial with military honors was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson.
