Priority bill is LB733 Constitutional Carry; how should $1.1B surplus be spent?

The second session of the 107th Legislature has convened. Second sessions are short, 60 legislative days. Bills introduced but not passed in the first session carry over into the second session. The current end of the session is scheduled for the 20th of April.

Merry Christmas

Many Americans have entered this Christmas season weary from another year of unprecedented challenges and increasingly divided communities. Thankfully, the beauty of Christmas comes in its unifying hope for all people.

Governor encourages senators to say, “No,” tells Trump to butt out

Governor Pete Ricketts has cautioned state senators to just say “no” to special interest groups who want to tell them how to spend American Rescue Plan Act funds. He has also asked former President Donald Trump not to endorse anyone running for Nebraska Governor in the primary election.

Nebraska’s citizen-soldiers Nebraska National Guard

Over the past three years, the Nebraska National Guard has helped Nebraskans through floods, fires, and a global pandemic. Through it all, the Guard has proved time and again how vital they are to the citizens of our state in times of need. As Commander-in-Chief of the Nebraska National Guard, I could not be more proud of these men and women.

I am coming back for permitless carry

I began my career as a soldier by taking an oath to defend the United States Constitution. The Constitution was supposed to set up a government of checks and balances. Those checks and balances are how we protect liberty and prevent government abuse. The Second Amendment is a critical part of our constitutional system.

Prioritizing Foreign Policy

America is the shining city on a hill, and we need strong, democratic partners around the world to help defend Western ideals of liberty and human rights. Weakness in the face of provocations from foreign enemies who openly oppose these ideals, such as China and Russia, threatens the freedom, and in some cases the very survival, of friends and allies we have fought alongside to liberate. Clarity and consistency in securing our prerogatives and standing with those who aspire to freedom, democracy, and self-determination around the world is vital.

Rejoice! It’s a short session coming

Coming right up, the short session of the Nebraska Legislature. The scheduled 60 days will be long on ideas, but probably short on controversial rhetoric, at least from senators who stand for re-election lest they offend their constituents or tip their hand to opponents.

Growing Nebraska: a year in review

If you’ve read my weekly columns, tuned into a press conference, or heard me speak before, you are no stranger to my guiding vision for the state: growing Nebraska. It’s been the mission of my Administration, and each year we have achieved success toward that goal. This year has been no different. In fact, Nebraska has made plenty of progress in 2021 worth celebrating.

Working together in 2021

As another year draws to a close, we have a lot to be grateful for. The recent tornadoes and storms brought hurricane-force winds and left thousands without power. But as powerful and dangerous as these storms were, Nebraska avoided disaster.

Americans look to themselves to improve their lives - not to the government

It’s that time of year when we all should pause a moment and consider the very long list of things that we all have to be thankful for. I’ve seen much of the world, and a lot of it wasn’t a pretty sight. Americans for the most part fail to grasp how blessed we all are to live in this country. I realize our federal government has some very serious problems that are so numerous I could write a book about it. But this is the time of year where I want to write about all we have to be thankful for.
