Recapping the bills

A brief recap of bills heard last week in the committees I serve on. LB 576 introduced by Sen.

One big beautiful budget resolution

W Just over a month into President Donald Trump’s second term, his administration is off to an aggressive start. Commissioned with a mandate from the people to restore American prosperity, the president has moved without delay to reassert common sense in the Executive Branch, rein in government overreach, and demonstrate international leadership.

Innovation at USPS must serve rural Americans

W Our nation’s founders understood the importance of establishing a universal postal system from the very beginning. In 1775, the Second Continental Congress appointed Benjamin Franklin postmaster general for the American colonies, nearly a full year prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

All Things Nebraska

As a young reporter, I got the opportunity to cover, and learn a few things, from maybe the greatest state senator ever, Jerome Warner. He was the kind of state senator who just commanded respect, and unlike some politicians, had a wellformed group of beliefs that guided his decision making.

DISTRICT 43 NEWS

eWs by Senator Tanya Storer This week in the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee, Senator Brandt introduced LB561, a bill that would add raw milk as a qualifying commodity under existing law, allowing agricultural commodity transportation exemptions from overweight penalties. The committee also heard testimony from candidates for the Underground Excavation Safety Committee.

Rolling back government overreach

The costly consequences of unnecessary, burdensome regulations represent one of the greatest threats to future American prosperity. In fact, a 2024 report produced by the Biden-Harris administration showed, in the year prior, the annual government-wide paperwork burden on Americans increased by 1.6 billion hours to more than 12.1 billion.

I do not support LB646

This week in the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee, LB 449, introduced by Sen. Fredrickson, generated the most discussion. This bill attempts to change the NDOT roads funding to a formula base which would shift more money to Omaha and away from rural Nebraska. This is not supported by NDOT and does not appear to have support from the committee. I have and will continue to fight against this from advancing as it would be detrimental to District 43.

New trade war would hurt Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers

It’s hard to overstate the impact agriculture has on the State of Nebraska. The production of crops contributes $25 billion a year to the state’s economy, according to the University of Nebraska, and the impact extends to the cities, where suppliers, bankers and consultants make a living providing goods and services to farmers and ranchers.
