Friday, September 3, 2021, the Valentine Badgers hosted O’Neill and lost with a score of 7-37. Scoring by quarters: Valentine - 0, 7, 0, 0, = 7 O’Neill - 10, 7, 14, 6 = 37 Coach Ian Bisch said, “Offensively we struggled on first down with penalties and mishapes on snaps that put us behind the chains which made it hard to get drives going.

Tuesday, September 7, 2021, the varsity team traveled to Chadron and took second place out of nine schools with 395; Scottsbluff took first place. Three of the team members medaled: Mekallyn Bancroft, fifth place, 91; Kaetryn Bancroft, seventh place, 96; Nicole Williams, ninth place, 100.

Saturday, September 11, the Valentine Cross Country team traveled to Broken Bow where they competed at the Broken Bow Country Club. The Girls 5K run results are as follows: 16th place, MaKenzie Long, 22:25.28; 61st place, Grace Maunu, 28:14.96; 66th place, Lexi Long, 28:49.44.

This past April, the Valentine City Council signed a proclamation to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Valentine Public Library. Director Anne Quigley read the 100th anniversary proclamation which began: Whereas, in April 1921, members of Chapter CA PEO, responding to the needs of a young and growing community, met with the objective of establishing the first public library in Valentine. With enthusiasm, energy and dedication from volunteers, and 500 donated volumes, the Valentine Public Library opened its doors on April 15, 1921. From these modest beginnings, the Library’s collections grew along with the community, to the point that it was turned over to the city in 1935 with 3,000 volumes and moved to the upper floor in the newly built City Hall. A new library building was erected across from City Hall. It was dedicated in August of 1968, it is the current location and now contains 30,000 volumes.

On a cloudy, overcast Saturday, September 11, 2021; quite the opposite of that fateful day 20 years ago, the American Legion and their families had a remembrance of the attacks that were the worst ever in the history of our country.
