Vets Club soup contest held

The Valentine Vets Club held their fourth week soup contest. First place winner was Rachel Wade, with sausage tortellini; second place jambalaya was Billy Weller, not pictured due to snow; third place was Emma Hanson with Italian soup; Bruce Balerud made potato soup.

Jean Burge Dean and Sheryl Noteboom enjoyed a visit last weekend from Mindy and Jason Veurink and family and got in some fishing and sledding. Sheryl visited the Veurinks at Platte this past weekend.

Not all that forgets is dementia

Frequently, my patients will come to a visit and bring up a major concern: “Doc, I think I might have dementia; my memory seems to be slipping.” They might give examples of having difficulty finding words, forgetting people’s names, or just feeling like their thinking is slower. Many of them know a family member who had dementia, and they are worried.

Farm Bureau Members set policy on key issues at annual meeting and convention

KEARNEY-Farmers and ranchers from across the state set Nebraska Farm Bureau (NEFB) policy for the upcoming year as part of the organization’s 105th Annual Meeting and Convention held December 4-6 in Kearney. Delegates discussed a wide range of agricultural policy issues to provide direction for the organization.

Governor Pillen proclaims January Radon Action Month

Lincoln-Governor Jim Pillen has officially proclaimed January Radon Action Month in Nebraska. As temperatures drop and Nebraskans spend more time indoors, it is important to consider the indoor air quality within your home. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Lung Association are encouraging residents of Nebraska to take action and test their homes for radon.

January brings Winter Sports Awareness

Lincoln – When the temperature drops and snow begins to fall, many people can’t wait to hit the slopes or ice rink. Winter fun is on their minds, not any potential injury. Yet if thoughtful preparation for any favored activity is not made, it’s easy to have a mishap. January has long been recognized as the National Winter Sports Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Awareness Month. Harsh winter days offer thrill-seekers a playground of opportunity to participate in extreme sports such as snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling. The high velocity along with the living-on-the-edge sense of adventure makes these sports appealing to many.
