Appoint a commission to consider increasing pay for legislatures

The old joke around the State Capitol is that legislators get paid “$12,000 a year and all you can eat and drink.” That is a reference to all the free meals – and, OK, maybe a drink or two – dispensed at the almost daily events hosted by lobbying groups during legislative sessions. But in reality, it’s no laughing matter that state senators in Nebraska get paid so little for representing us.

Permanent Standard Time?

This week the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee advanced my bill LB 667 on to General File for floor debate. I am pleased to see this move out of committee as it will provide a more robust reimbursement process for warranty work for our local dealers.

Badger Speech results from Ainsworth

The Badger Speech team competed at the Ainsworth invite March 1, 2025. The team placed second overall! Individual placements are as follows: Marybelle Ward third in Entertainment and Persuasive.

CNEDD flood disaster funding throughout the region

It's been said that disaster recovery takes a long time, the work has been done, the projects have been completed, and now the CDBG- DR funds are being reimbursed to our counties and communities following the disastrous 2019 flooding. Central Nebraska Economic Development District helped five counties and 10 communities apply for federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Funds in June of 2022.

Smith announces upcoming staff outreach events

Washington, D.C. – Constituents of Third District Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) are invited to meet with a member of his staff during March in Sidney, Kimball, Bridgeport, Springview, Valentine, Arthur, Brewster, and Broken Bow.

Jeremiah Smith’s memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8 at the Methodist Church in Valentine. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., the memorial will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by a meal and visitation time at the 4-H Building in Valentine.
