How much am I able to earn from an employer if I opt to take my Social Security at age 62 next year? - Glenn To be very clear, you can earn as much money as you want while collecting Social Security benefits. The issue that most people are concerned with is having their benefits reduced for earning more than the annual earnings limit.

Lakeview/Crookston

About 70 people attended the Lakeview Church picnic on the 4th of July at the church grounds. It was one of the coolest 4th of July days that I remember, but a great day of food and friendships – old and new.

Paging Doctor Hollywood

From Dr. Marcus Welby and Dr. Meredith Grey to “Hawkeye” Pierce and Doogie Howser, MD, there have been a multitude of television doctors. You likely spend more time watching them than you do with your own physician. Television shows the life of a doctor as exciting, dramatic and glamorous; however, real life is often much different.

Reunions

The 43rd Haley Reunion was held June 24, 2023 in the Valentine City Park. A meal was enjoyed Saturday evening by 44 descendants of Maude and Albert Haley. We met at 3:00 p.m. so the kids could enjoy playing in the park and the adults had more time to visit before the meal. We shared a birthday cake in honor of Hazel Prentice’s 89th birthday. Hazel received the prize for the oldest Haley present. Receiving the prize for traveling the farthest was Brad Langston from Texas. Noah VanMetre, 18 month old son of Tyler VanMetre, received the prize for the youngest Haley present. David Lee and Jolene VanMetre received the prize for most grandkids present as they had Tyler’s three grandchildren there. Connie McCready received a prize for the best loved dessert! We decided to move the date up a week for the next year’s reunion so it would not interfere with those that have their class reunions on the same night since the majority want to still keep the reunion on a Saturday. The next reunion will be June 21, 2025 in the Valentine City park again starting at 3:00 p.m. with the meal to follow at 5:00 p.m. Martha Smith would like any updates you have for your family for the Haley history book. Those changes can be emailed to her at vmsmith@alliancecom.net. Bring your books with you to the next reunion and she will have page inserts to put in your family history books. Reminder to check out the Haley Reunion Facebook page for any family updates. Those present this year were as follows: Shelly Larsen, Abbey Wortal, Sonya and Mike Evans, Patsy Smith, Janelle and Jack Haley, Martha Smith, Jolene and David Lee VanMetre, Tyler, Valerie, Alese, Emerson, and Noah VanMetre, Sandy Billings, Karolyn Stovall, Jan and Kristi Libolt, Sharon, Tim, and Brad Langston, Connie and Bob McCready, Rita and Rex Weber, Marilyn and Roger Haley, Terri Hill, Hazel Prentice, John and Kathy Vandersnick, Rosella and Burnell Nieuwenhuis, Jerry and Jeannette Sharp, Sherry Weatherly, Kenny, Shelley, and Kris Sharp, Tim, Lila, Keathan, and Kasen O’Keefe.

Dealing with tree surface roots

Roots erupting through the soil surface that extend beyond the tree trunk are known as surface roots. This is a normal part of aging for shallow-rooted trees. The aging roots increase in circumference just like the tree’s branches and trunk. As they thicken, the upper portion of the roots appear above the soil surface.

Do not miss the signs of a blood clot

The patient was young, healthy, and short of breath. She had not been sick recently, other than a minor cough. Her oxygen level was normal and her lungs sounded clear. Her heart rate was a little fast and she was breathing rather quickly, too. She was anxious about it, but she knew there was more to this than anxiety. Meanwhile, she was taking an antibiotic for bronchitis which did not seem to be helping. We did some additional tests, some blood work, to look for other possible causes. One test result gave us a big clue: her “d-dimer” was elevated. While not tied to a specific diagnosis, this gave us more reason to keep looking.
