Sand Painter Artist of the Month

The March Art Show at the Valentine Public Library is a selection of oil paintings by Joan Swim. Capturing the essence of our natural surroundings and simplicity of daily life is the focus of Joan Swim’s artwork. In this fast paced, technologically embedded society Joan opens the viewer’s eyes to the aesthetics of the ordinary. Viewing the straightforward nature of something and working from life in plein air gives vibrancy to what Swim sees as life’s simple beauty. Nature is her studio as she paints weekly in plein air on location. Her hope is that the viewer finds refuge and fascination in the design and eloquence of a humble life.

It was near the end of that summer, but the beginning of a long period of mourning for my family and me.
